Care and Maintenance Tips for Lithium-ion Battery

In recent years, lithium-ion batteries are gaining popularity for their lightweight, environmental friendliness and long life. However, many ignore the battery's daily care, significantly reducing its service life.

Like all batteries, there's a limit on how long you can use it before it runs empty. A little tweaking and adjusting will help fix any lag you're experiencing and optimize the efficiency of your e-bike. Here are simple tips to make your e-bike go further.

The first, and most obvious way, is to keep it at a lower assistance setting. If you are the one who has to put in more effort, then that means the battery doesn't have to be put in, so it will last longer.

The next thing that you can do is to use the right gears based on the situation. Lower gears make it easier to move the bike at lower speeds, and higher gears make it easier to move the bike at higher speeds. With that being the case, you should try to change gears based on what is ahead of you. For example, if you are approaching a stop light and don't change gears before you get there, it will take a lot of effort to get going again and drain the battery.

Another thing to remember is that your bike's power requirement increases exponentially as you speed up. This means that, when cycling at higher speeds, your battery will be drained more quickly. The solution to this problem is to choose a higher gear and use a lower assist setting when going faster.

Nothing beats a great ride; with an electric bike, a fun day can last a lot longer than pedaling alone. But there's nothing sadder than finding out your battery is dead just as the fun begins. Here are some tips for extending the life of your e-bike battery.

1. Use the original charger to protect the circuit

When charging the battery, mismatched current and voltage will cause damage to the circuit system, shorten the life of the battery, and even bring safety hazards. Therefore, the original LG/Samsung Battery and charger are the best partners.

2. Moderate charging and discharging to avoid damage

Excessive charging and discharging will significantly damage the battery. Do not wait until the power is entirely out before charging, and do not charge for too long (avoid charging all night).

3. Pay attention to the charging environment to eliminate safety hazards

Charging in a wet, rainy or snowy environment is prone to short circuits; charging in the hot sun in summer is prone to spontaneous combustion. To ensure safety, you should choose to charge in a dry, ventilated and cool environment. It is recommended to store your batteries between 0-40℃, which is 32-104℉.

4. Avoid frequent braking to save power and reduce losses

Frequent braking and acceleration will keep the battery in a high current discharge state for a long time. Whether mechanical or hydraulic brakes, it is best to maintain a constant speed to keep the battery working steadily.

5. Choose a suitable storage place and keep away from hazardous sources

Please store the bike in a ventilated place for daily parking. Even though e-bikes can ride in the rain, that doesn't mean they are waterproof, so you should take some precautions. Avoid storing the lithium-ion battery in a humid environment and exposing it to sunlight for a long time. Please keep it away from heat sources, flammable and explosive materials.

6. Charge your bicycle regularly when it is idle for a long time

When the bike is not in use for a long time, avoid leaving the lithium-ion battery in a state of long-term power loss, as this can result in much-reduced service life. It is recommended to charge it once every two weeks, and it is best to keep it in a semi-charged storage state (about 40%~60%).

7. Timely cleaning to eliminate hidden dangers

When not using the bike, pay attention to the cleanliness of the lithium-ion battery. Promptly remove dust and dirt from the battery cover to keep it dry and clean to prevent self-discharge. Promptly remove rust from charging and discharging ports to avoid poor connections and safety hazards. If you are the one who concerns the issue of attracting dirt, you can unplug the battery cable first. Then put your bike together with the battery into a carry bag for the better protection.
